Just above the ruins of the amazing roman city of CARSULAE there is one of those fairy villages built in stone, with a medieval church, a trattoria offering good traditional food and the smallest coziest coffee bar where to sip a cappuccino or a beer after long walks up on the mountain trails.
The village is built on the slopes of the mountain and people still go there for mushrooms, for wood to burn. In fact they still own strong and healthy mules to carry wood on trails where trucks could not pass.
...it is said that, even if only for a night, Portaria had the honor of counting Lucrezia Borgia among its famous guests: quite an honor!
